Millions of workers are potentially exposed to one or more chemical hazards on a daily basis. There are an estimated 575,000 existing chemical products; hundreds of new ones are introduced annually. In the U.S., the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) establishes uniform requirements to make sure that the respiratory hazards of workplaces are evaluated and that engineering and work practice controls are implemented along with a respiratory protection program.
